Lets get started on today’s episode on Unlocking Eight Types of Rest: The Secret to Lowering Your High Blood Pressure.

Ever feel like a good night's sleep isn't enough to shake off that constant fatigue? You're not alone. Today's episode of unlocking eight types of rest dives into the fascinating realm of rest types—yes, there's more than one! From mental to sensory rest, understanding these can be especially crucial if you're dealing with high blood pressure.

So, let’s explore how diversifying your rest routine can not only rejuvenate your mind and body but may also be a lifesaver for your heart health.

Renew With Sleep!

They say renew with sleep, and the whole body is renewed.  But what parts of the body really rest? The heart, lungs and all the vital organs function that relates to life never rest in sleep.  Digestion and assimilation are always ongoing.

Also, our subconscious mind is never at rest it is always listening and putting thoughts into action.

But our healing, the healing process as a whole, do take place more rapidly while we are asleep as there is no interference from our conscious mind. Because our conscious mind is involved in all the turmoil of daily living and it becomes necessary to have a withdrawal period so that our natural bodily functions can commune in silence with the inner workings of our mind - our subconscious mind.

Dr. John Bigelow, researcher and writer of “The Mystery of Sleep”, says, “the nobler part of the soul is united by abstraction to our higher nature and becomes a participant in the wisdom and foreknowledge of the gods.”

Now we're very aware of the importance of sleep and how crucial it is to a healthy body. When we aren't sleeping enough, we see various symptoms alerting us that something needs to change. When we think about rest, though, we can often just think of it as another word for sleep.

But rest for the body is one aspect of rest, and there are actually several different types of rest we can be focusing on adding to our lives regularly.

Prioritize These Eight Different Types Of Rest

Here are eight different types of rest you can prioritize for a balanced approach to wellness:

  1. Physical Rest: This can be passive (like sleeping or napping) or active (like stretching, yoga, or walking). Physical rest helps your body recover and repair itself. But I know that the first thing that comes to mind when we say we need rest is time to sleep.

A good night's sleep is the backbone of a healthy body, and aiming for seven to eight hours of sleep each night will be transformational for your health. If you struggle with this, setting a bedtime and creating a nourishing bedtime routine will help get you into a rhythm you enjoy.

  2. get better sleep. https://www.info-on-high-blood-pressure.com/unlocking-eight-types-of-rest.html
  3. Mental Rest: Taking breaks from cognitive tasks and giving your mind a chance to relax. This can include techniques like mindfulness, meditation, or simply taking short breaks throughout the day to clear your mind.

For me I like to think of it as time to fly solo. In a world where we have families, work closely with others, and are often involved in our community, sometimes uninterrupted quiet time is the answer. It doesn't matter whether or not you're an introvert. Everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy some silence and their own company. It can look like a night in with a good book or a dinner date for one.

  4. Sensory Rest: Reducing sensory input by limiting exposure to screens, loud noises, and bright lights. Taking time away from digital devices and finding quiet, calm spaces can help your senses recharge.

As part of your sensory rest think of it as time in nature.

There is just something about being outdoors that is so grounding. It can be as simple as walking barefoot through the grass or as intense as hiking a mountain. Spending more time in nature has a way of reminding us of our place in the universe. So grab a friend, or don't, and get some sun on your face.

  5. Creative Rest: Engaging in activities that inspire and stimulate your creativity, like enjoying art, listening to music, or spending time in nature. This type of rest allows your mind to wander and think outside the box.

  6. Emotional Rest: Creating a space to express and process your emotions, whether through talking with a friend or therapist, journaling, or practicing self-compassion. Emotional rest helps you release pent-up feelings and gain emotional clarity.

  7. Social Rest: Spending time with supportive and energizing people while avoiding those who drain your energy. Social rest involves building meaningful connections and sometimes includes taking a break from social obligations.

And then there is time with your people.

Community is an essential part of a healthy life. If you're feeling disconnected, brainstorm how to prioritize creating new relationships and nurturing the ones you already have. I like to add this to my weekly schedule, so it doesn't get put on the backburner. It can be as simple as a quick check-in, lunch date, or a walk after work with a friend. You don't have to be an extrovert to feel recharged by sharing an authentic conversation with the people you love.

  8. Date Night. https://www.info-on-high-blood-pressure.com/unlocking-eight-types-of-rest.html
  9. Time away: This can look different for everyone. For some, it can be a weekend stay in a hotel. You may just need a change of scenery and a good old-fashioned night out. For others, it could take an entire week to rejuvenate you. And still, some may need an extended break from the weight of the world. It's okay to step back from commitments or responsibilities while caring for yourself for a season.

  10. Spiritual Rest: Connecting with something larger than yourself, be it through religious practices, meditation, or spending time in nature, can provide a sense of purpose and belonging.

Honestly, you may be feeling so depleted that you need to make time for all eight types of rest -- and that's okay. Taking time out to recharge is never selfish or frivolous. Each person is different and worthy of the rest they need to operate well.

Prioritizing these eight types of rest can lead to a more balanced and holistic approach to wellness, which is particularly valuable for managing high blood pressure effectively.
