Doctors often prescribe diuretics for high blood pressure. Drug therapy for hypertension is often a combination of one or more medications that may include an angiotensin II receptor, calcium channel blocker, beta blocker, angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, and/or a diuretic.
These medications help to remove excess fluid from your body. When your kidneys are working properly, they pull excess fluid from the body and flush it out.
In order to work properly, the kidneys need to receive oxygen and nutrient rich blood from the heart. If the heart doesn't do it's job, the kidneys stop functioning properly, which causes a back up of fluid throughout your body.
If the amount of pressure in the arteries is too high, then the blood cannot be pumped throughout the body properly and the kidneys don't receive enough of the nutrient rich blood.
Your doctor is likely to prescribe diuretics for high blood pressure as a treatment for the excessive fluid buildup in your body. However, these medications don't necessarily help with improving your hypertension.
This HBP medication may cause some harsh side effects and dosages should be monitored by your doctor. In many cases, it can take some time to get the combination of medications to the right level.
If your doctor has told you that you need to take this drug, he or she has also likely prescribed other medications for you. These medications include ACE inhibitors, beta blockers and calcium channel blockers.
When they work together, these medications can reduce your high blood pressure, which improves the way you feel and reduces your chances of complications.
So don't stop taking them without your doctor’s permission. Though some of these drugs and drug combinations have some serious side effects, which can be a bit nerve racking since you may have to take them for the rest of your life.
Follow your doctor’s suggested dosage carefully to ensure that you're getting optimal aid. Focus on the types of treatment recommended by your doctor. Also consider improving your lifestyle and diet to see further improvements in your blood pressure.
